Does my website need SSL?

It is now mandatory by Google to have your site secure with an SSL certificate. You can get those at your Hosting company.

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer and it is the thing that shows the green padlock in the browser bar along with your URL starting with https:// instead of http://

Best Practice: If you handle any personal information like forms with names, emails, phone numbers you should have an SSL certificate installed.
